Temptation or vital need?

Temptation or vital need?

In order to reach a blissful state we must pass some stages. These stages have specified rules. This transformation or reaching a blissful state requires time and effort.

It can be said that most people are deprived of blissful state and their efforts are to create this state for themselves. But the rules are mostly unknown to the people so their effort usually makes the situation worst. Violation of these rules creates a worse situation for us.

Take analogy for instance; sometimes an idea is formed inside our minds that I am better than X and I will try so hard to prove this and even sometimes I hurt others proving this point.

In a footrace an individual is thinking that I must run faster than others and another individual is thinking that I must run these 100 meters in 9 seconds. These attitudes are different and each creates a different situation and insight.

Now about the “Self”, the foremost attribute of self is desire meaning that we recognize self’s situation by its desires.

When an individual desires to use narcotics, a situation is created for him, which shows the state of his self. And when someone doesn’t desire to use narcotics, it is said that his “self” has been changed.

Desires are divided into two categories: Reasonable and unreasonable.

A person who is in darkness (bad situation) is:

1.     Doing the unreasonable desires.

2.     He can’t see the reasonable desires.

3.     He doesn’t want to do the reasonable desires.

With occurring one of the above mentioned points, moving toward darkness will begin.

As it is obvious the above mentioned points will be created for lack of wisdom or ignorance.

Now I would like to talk about temptation.

As far as I know in other places when they quit drugs (cold-turkey) they would say we have a temptation to use narcotics which we have to fight with. But we do not believe in temptation with this definition.

We believe when an individual has temptation to use this is because of his desires and he needs to use. This need or desire to use is created because of the unbalanced chemical status of the body! And this issue needs a proper treatment.

So we need to learn how to separate vital needs from temptations?

Example:

The body needs during of 7 hours of sleep at night in order to regain its strength and energy. Now when I sleep at 10 pm and I wake up at 5 am and yet I want to sleep this situation is because of temptation; because the sleeping need of body has been granted.

Another situation:

I have slept at 11 pm but my phone rings at 12 pm and I woke up.

The difference between these situations is: at the first situation if I dominate the temptation and I come out of bed after half an hour I will feel peppy. But in the second situation even if hours passes by I won’t feel better at all.

So the foremost difference between temptation and need is: temptation will disappear with a specified delay but when there is a need even time cannot make it go away and it is like thirst.

When someone is thirsty if you distract him (play cards with him or etc) one hour later he is still thirsty! This is the difference between temptation and need.
