Have you ever thought what “Eid-e shoma Mubarak” (Happy New Year to You) exactly means?
I myself had never known how to think about concepts, until I met Mr. Hakimi as the guest lecturer in Mashhad.
If I am right, it was the end of 1390 that Mr. Hakimi came to Mashhad Branch. The number of people present at the branch was hardly 20. After the session and during the time of legion, Mr. Hakimi started a discussion titled:
“What is the meaning of “Eid”? “—New Year
Interestingly, none of the twenty people in the legion knew the literal meaning of the word.
He mentioned:
The word “Eid” means "Coming back".
Then I found out that the word “oud” (relapse into a disease) comes from the same root, too. It is used by physicians when they say:
“She/he relapsed into her/his old illness.,”
Now why do we call the beginning of spring and the New Year “Eid”?
We know that the Ancient Iranians have set the beginning of their calendar to spring. Spring is the season in which the weather is mild, nature and all living creatures are going to evolve, flourish and revive.
In terms of the relative changes and the knowledge of astronomy, the extreme balance of the steep axes of the Earth during the time moving around the sun happens at the beginning of Farvardin (the first month of the solar year, March 20th).
It means the Earth is always moving around the sun at special angles and this relative decline makes different seasons appear. But at the beginning of spring, the Earth’s and the Sun’s axes don’t have any steep angles and this is called co-directionality of the axes.
This balance, beauty and rebirth make man remember the point from which he has been diverged. Of course it is not the actual place but this meaning of balance is the same returning to the place we started from.
Now I’m wondering and asking myself:
“Do you know the meaning of “mubarak”?”
Now that I have learned etymology (finding the lexical origin of words) from my masters, so I try to define
“Barekat” (blessing) is familiar to me, so when I say:
“Eide shoma mubarak!”
It means I wish blessing for you in this beautiful returning.
Of course, this is not only done by lip services. Some people put it into action and give each other Coins or Notes as the symbol of blessing to be an indication of the coveted blessing. :
But the best congratulation on “Eid” for the travelers traveling consciously in their great journey to the first points is:
To step forward to actualize their own wishes of comprehensive blessings and felicity
It means that I as a traveler try to keep environment clean and to develop it to reach to the destination with more blessings and benedictions.
It means that I as a traveler try to be a better and more deserved human to serve people in order to receive blessings I wish to be received by me and others.
“Eid-e shoma mubarak”
Then;
“May our spiritual return to the moderation and beauty and be full of blessings and felicity?”
