Communications of Hossein and Bill (Reply to Hossein - Nov 30, 2018)

Nov 30,2018

Dear Hossein,

I will look forward to your continued updates on the DST research and offer any guidance I can as you proceed with this important work.

The description of the financial legions and the Gol Rizan are most interesting as I receive a lot of requests from recovery community organizations around the world about how to sustain themselves financially.  Many receive money from outside entities but these have a way of diverting these organizations from their primary mission. Your approach seems to provide financial self-support without becoming dependent on some outside entity that could alter your mission and values. The origin of Gol Rizan in Iran was also very interesting to me. We recall similar efforts from my childhood here in the U.S. in rural communities and urban neighborhoods but the rapid changes we have experienced have decreased community cohesiveness and mutual support efforts. Such functions have been taken over somewhat by formal social agencies, but something of great value is being lost in that process. You are wise in continuing and adapting the Gol Rizan practice in Congress 60. I will share your experience with other organizations that contact me for guidance.

We have shared with each other various health challenges that we have experienced over the years of our friendship. This was a good week for me as I received two good medical reports. I received good news on my vision (no longer need to take medication) and my blood counts (chronic anemia is stable and unlikely to morph into leukemia). At our age, health become critical to continue the work of our lives. We have been blessed by so many people supporting us in this effort.

There was a recent conference on recovery support services attended by leaders of recovery community organizations around the country. One of the areas of increasing interest was in the area of integrating sport and outdoor adventure as recovery support activity. I think this is increasing in part by the accounts we have published on how such activities have been such an important part of Congress 60. Please let everyone in Congress 60 know that what you are doing is rippling around the world like a stone dropped in water. Your waves are reaching far shores.

Extend my warmest regards to your family.

Friends and Brothers Forever,

Bill
