The calendar is full of days that are different from other days and bring with them certain messages. Now, the last page of this issue is being prepared and it prepares itself for entering another year [the end of solar year]. Reaching half of the month of Esfand (March), we will see a special phrase on the calendar page: the day of tree planting; the day on which we have to stretch our [helping] hand to nature and establish a deep, solid bond with it. It's time to reward these constant figures and be grateful to them for the services that they have permanently provided for human beings.
We may ask ourselves which kind of services [they have offered to us]? The tree is one of the most beautiful manifestations of creation and it is a manifestation of the Creator of the universe. Tree is a symbol and manifestation of greenery, freshness and life. It enhances the comfort of the people and the purity of nature. We, humans have repeatedly used this divine blessing and maybe we can easily pass them. We all have rested for moments in the shade of these trees and we have forgotten our concerns. We've cut their body to get wood and make living necessities. We have plucked their leaves and fruits to meet our needs, and eventually we owe our lives to the presence of the plants.
They have served us with all their power; but we ask ourselves: what have we done for them? Today, in the last days of the year and close to the time of the growth of the sprouts in nature, the day of tree-planting has been the cause of thinking about these silent creatures, and relieve a little of the pain that we have imposed to their lives. May we care about the environment and our city as much as we care about covering and buying our clothes in Nowruz, or I wish we had spent the same amount of money for trees as we pay for the last Wednesday of the year [which is celebrated in Iran] so that we could change the joy of one night to a constant pleasure.
Today [Arbour day] is the day of learning, and we all must learn that trees have right to live and they must be older every day, so that our posterity will benefit from them too. We want to get into the color of nature and for moments, focus our minds on these beauties of nature and play an important role for this important day, the day of tree-planting.
