The Physicians' Legion, November 11, 2016

The fifth session of the twelfth series of Physicians' legion was held on November 11 2016 in Teleqani Park at 8 o'clock, under the supervision of Mr. Dezhakam, and the mastery of Mr. Behnam. Ms. Ghazal was the secretary of the ceremony. The agenda was "The Third valley and its effect on me"

The master: first of all reads the title of the third valley: We should know that nobody is concerned as deeply as a human being for his true self. When a traveller starts his travel in Congress60, he faces the first valley (the thinking valley) and he gradually realizes that what he has done has been far from thinking and logic. In this way, he becomes disappointed, at this moment, the second valley comes and tells him that you should not be disappointed as you see you were doing wrong. Instead you have to return from the wrong path. In the third valley, the patient is ready to move.

When a patient comes to a clinic, the doctor asks him about the reasons why he was smoking drugs. The patient states many reasons and s/he accuses all the creatures in the world. For instance, s/he says that their parents did not provide the necessary facilities for me and they have disappointed me, I have not received enough love from them. Therefore, I had no other way except smoking drugs. Those patients who were socially high-ranked, stated that those people around them were envious of them, that is why they were drawn towards addiction. Some of them accused the Lord for their addiction and stated that they had been poor and this was the reason why they were drawn towards addiction.

They all assign their addiction to external factors and accuse everything except themselves. The third valley, however, rejects all of these reasons and mentions that you are the only guilty party. If s/he has suffered from anything, s/he herself/himself has been the cause. No one has added an extra load on him. In Congress60, it is mentioned that our greatest enemy is our ignorance. Simultaneously, it is mentioned that your best friend is yourself and you are the most powerful person to solve your own problems. In the field of addiction treatment, this statement is true either: there will be no miracle in this field except our own correct thinking and behaviours.

There is a concept in psychology which reads that everything which happens is in yourself (everything starts in yourself). If we believe in this concept, moving on the righteous path will be easier. If we compare addiction with movies, we can easily realize that although the main actor is surrounded by many other actors, the main action is done by the actor himself/herself. Similarly, in the field of addiction, the main role is played by the patient himself.

Before a patient starts his/her travel in Congress60, they are told that they will have a hard path to pass, in this path, s/he has to compensate for whatever they had done wrong. In this valley, the companion also understands her duties. There are the boundaries which must be highly observed. The third valley tells us that we have to take the responsibility of our own doings and afterwards they have to implement the righteous thinking to overcome difficulties that s/he has made for herself/himself during time.

Dr. Ardeshir:Human beings have two strong defensive mechanisms: denial and projection. When a person denies an issue, it means that s/he has forgotten that issue completely and s/he considers him/herself as innocent. Sometimes, s/he blames the people around him, since s/he considers them as guilty. Sometimes, they consider their family, father, mother or wife as guilty. When a person wants to protect her/his anxiety and tensions, s/he escapes his/her own responsibilities. A guide should help a traveler find out this matter, no one is responsible for his/her addiction except him/herself.

Dr. Fereshte: an event in our life might have different interpretations. Instead of finding different justifications, we have to find a solution to our problem. Our experience shows that the families who help their addict more than needed, will be never successful in the treatment of their addict. Nowadays, all families are struggling with different problems including monetary or social ones. Some families are supporting their first child with every facility they can provide, however, their child will not succeed anymore. Conversely, there are some families in which their children are freer and these children can provide themselves some opportunities to develop and progress.

Dr. Azam: The third valley states that no one is concerned with my affairs more than myself. In the past, as a patient came to us, we asked him about the reasons why he got addicted. But as I studied the manuscripts of Congress60 for the newcomers, I found out that the therapist is the patient him/herself. Congress60 only shows the path. The first day I came to the physicians' legion, I asked Mr. Dezhakam why we do not use the term of "therapist" instead of "traveler" in Congress60? Now, I realized that the term "traveler" has a more comprehensive meaning and shows that the traveler himself must take the responsibility of his own treatment.

Dr.  Masoud: As I read the agendas, I consider myself. In the past, I was so drunk that my family were to find me in the streets. The first time I drank alcohol, was four days after I was the champion in Asian championship. When I returned home, I was highly welcome and invited to a party and I was offered alcohol by one of the city's champions. He told me that if I did not drink, he would kill himself. That was the first time I drank alcohol. After that night, I accused him of all my problems. The problem is that he offered me alcohol on the first night, who offered me the second glass on the following nights?  This is like a gazelle which gets far from its family due to the nice landscapes and walks on the wrong path to enjoy the plants on the sides of the road; as it finds another flower more enjoyable to eat, it continues walking. As it walks, it gets farther and farther from its family and if it decides to come back the path, it will have a very difficult work. Since it is alone, it is susceptible to be attacked by wild animals. The first time I used alcohol, I enjoyed a lot, therefore, I decided  to continue drinking. When I decided to return back to the right path, all my friends and family tried to help me, but I myself was the only person who could help me. That is why I never get apart from Congress60.

Mr. Samad: The valleys are the foundations of Congress60. It is always mentioned in Conggress60 that our greatest enemy is our ignorance. Ignorance consists of three sides of fear,  disappointment and egotism. When the negative forces rush into someone's mind, egotism is formed in him. Congress60 takes people far from negative and wrong forces, but this is viable through training. If the three sides of ignorance go towards balance, the person will have a good worldview, and gradually his/her ability increases. He can withstand the difficulties and return to the right path.

Dr. Maryam: We all know that we are not all born similarly considering both physical and spiritual traits. But we can be similar to each other emotionally, all of us can understand the senses of happiness, grief and enjoying. Unfortunately, we do not have an exact definition of enjoyment. When you ask addicts why you were drawn towards addiction, they will provide the same reasons: to escape from the problems and enjoy. However, many of them assert that  they are tired of their current situation, but they never ever accused themselves of being guilty. I hope we can see the day that we take the responsibility of our own problems.

Dr. Mohammad: One factor which can affect our behavior drastically is to accurately interpret the daily event happening to us. Let me provide an example: a man get on a bus, some stations later, another man gets on the bus with his three children. They were very naughty and they made lots of noise. This disturbed people and they all thought that what an inobservant father he was! Why he did nothing to silence them. The man got angry and shouted: "Why don't you do anything to calm them down?" The father answered: "We are coming back from the hospital in which my wife just died. I wonder how grow them up." Suddenly, all the anger in the man changed to kindness and love. When you understand the situation and you have a correct interpretation, you can take a step to help others.

I have studied many books and found out that the traveler must observe three important factors: first of all, the traveler is the main actor and no one else is involved in his treatment except himself. He must know that he has made the problem and he must overcome them. Some problems are temporary and some may take time to solve. And the last important factor is that a problem is only one part of my life not all of it. I got familiar with Congress60 when Mr. Dezhakam was speaking. He mentioned that an addict him/herself must help him/herself. After that I wanted to speak with him about my own problems, but he made me listen to his words and I could not tell my own words. That is why that day was one of my worst performances in the media.

Dr. Shiva: Our ego makes the self which determines the existence externally and internally. The only difference between human beings and other creatures is their authority. One of the treatment triangle sides is the change of thinking style and worldview. A traveler must change his thinking towards his family and society. He must not blame others for the problems he has. If he knows that he has selected this path himself, he will return to the right path and compensate for the mistakes that he has made.

Master Dezhakam: There are as many ways for being addicted as the number of human beings in the world. Now we suppose that the addicts are not guilty for being addicted but they play a very important role in their treatment. We do not care for the reason why a person is addicted, we are to help him understand that he is the only responsible of his treatment. We should know that nobody is concerned as deeply as a human being for his true self. Every person must be accountable for his actions.

When we have the valleys as our agenda, we have to put ourselves in that valley. We should see if we can perform the valley in our lives. If we can do that, then we can judge people. Sometimes, we want people to do something that we ourselves are not capable of doing. For instance, a father may ask his child not to tell lies, but he tells lies himself. If you want to be trained, you must solely consider yourself. You might consider the Congressional issues very easy, however it is not the case. If you could help a person to become liberated from addiction, then you can speak in this field. If you could make a patient balanced, then you can claim that you are an expert.

At last, Mater Dezhakam gave two travelers their flowers of liberation.
